Cordial Elected

Kathy Cordial of Pinehurst has been elected to the North Carolina board of nursing.

Cordial, a nurse at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, was elected to fill a three-year term.

The new board takes office in January.

North Carolina is the only state in the nation that elects the majority of its board members. Only three of the 14 board members are appointed.

This year, because of a statute change in 2003 that reorganized the board’s composition and tenure, all 11 elected positions were up for election. This year’s slate of candidates totaled 40 nurses from more than 30 communities around the state.

North Carolina was the first state in the nation to have a board of nursing.

The board, established in 1903, remains committed to protecting the health and wellbeing of the public through ensuring the delivery of safe, effective nursing care statewide.
