County Bookmobile ‘Burnout’

The Moore County Bookmobile literally “ran out of steam” recently, when the driver, Ann Gibbons, could not restart it after her scheduled stop in High Falls. An undetected leaking radiator combined with record temperatures caused the bookmobile to lose all of its radiator fluid causing possible engine damage.

The bookmobile, a 1985 vintage vehicle, makes 60 scheduled stops throughout the 2,000 square mile county every two weeks and circulates about 3,500 books and other materials each month.

Repairs on the bookmobile are under way but it may early October before the vehicle is back in service, according to the county maintenance department. Limited temporary service is being supplied with the use of another county van and as many stops as possible are being met. Please call the library, 947-5335, for more detailed information.

“The library personnel wish to thank all bookmobile users for their patience and understanding in this matter,” says Nancy Garner, Moore County library director.
