Eleven Horses Approved at Ashemont Keuring

BY SUE SMITHSON: Equestrian Correspondent

German horsemen representing the Rhineland Pfalz Saars (RPSI) breeding program were at Pat and Joe Belski’s Ashemont Farm in Aberdeen Sept. 11 for a keuring, which is a breed inspection.

To earn German papers, the horses must be presented before the panel, who also inspect the breeding documents and show records of horses of riding age.

Two stallions were approved for breeding: AB Phoenix (60, Book I), owned by the Belskis, and Cossino (53, Book I), owned by Vicky Thomas of Vass.

Two mares with foals were approved. One was presented by Dale Gibson of Duncan, S.C., and the other by Dale Kelley of Raleigh.

Seven foals were also approved for registry. Remarkably Fine (owned by Martha and Kate McCrea of Catawba) Second Night (E. Harris of Monroe, Ga.) AB Amarkette (Pat and Joe Belskie), AB Welt Sturm (Belskie) AB Welt Wind (Belskie), Guardian’s Wind Dancer (Gina Benson and Centaur Farms) Go Walkabout Joe (Centaur Farms).

“Although we had fewer horses than expected, we had a number of spectators,” said keuring coordinator Pat Belski. “Our AB Welt Sturm, who did so well at the Raleigh breed show, received a gold premium and walked away with high score honors. He is currently the highest scoring colt in the US! Both of his siblings also received Gold Premiums.

“Based on the high quality of his foals and his success at 4th level, Welt Marke had his breeding license extended to next year, when he should be able to fulfill all requirements for a permanent license.”
