Articles of Faith: Purple and Fine Linen Plans Service

Purple & Fine Linen Ministries, led by the Rev. Deborah Brown, will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22, in the music room at the Holly Inn in Pinehurst.

Homecoming

Eagle Springs will celebrate its 102nd Anniversary as a church on Homecoming Day, Sept. 21 with the Rev. Bill Boatwright of the Baptist State Convention staff as the special speaker. Boatwright has spent 33 years with the Convention in several capacities being director of Public Relations for the last several years. “He is an outstanding speaker and we look forward to his message, said Dr. Zeb Moss, pastor.

Vernon Chandler of Vernon Chandler Ministries will be bring special music.

Chandler is a professional musician and has performed at revivals, concerts, conferences and in many churches. His first CD “I Choose Jesus” is now available.

Floyd Jordan of West End will cater the dinner on the Grounds.”

Anniversary Services

Sandy Grove Bible Church of God in Vass will hold pre-anniversary services for its pastor, the Rev. Elwood Hooker, on Wednesday, Sept. 17, through Friday, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m. each night.

On Saturday, Sept. 20, at 5 p.m., there will be a banquet at St. Mary’s in Carthage. The speaker will be Bishop Harry Lee of Lumberton.

Fall Revival

Calvary Baptist Church located at 549 Plank Road in Carthage is having its annual fall revival Sunday, Sept. 21 through Thursday, Sept. 25.

The guest speaker will be the Rev. Jimmy Tarlton from Olive Branch Baptist Church in Marshville. Sunday night service begins at 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday nights services will begin at 7 p.m. There will be special singing each night.

Annual Supper

Doubs Chapel United Methodist Church will hold its annual supper on Sept. 20 in the church fellowship hall from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m

Prices for the dinner is $7 for adults and $3 for children under 10.

On the menu is home-cooked chicken and dumplings, cole slaw and pinto beans. Desserts prepared by the women of the church will be varied and plentiful. Any whole desserts left toward the end of the serving will be auctioned.

Rummage Sale

The annual Seven Lakes Chapel in the Pines Community Rummage Sale will be held Saturday, Oct. 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Olde West End Gym on Route 211.

All proceeds are earmarked for the Community Christmas Fund and used for the purchase of gifts for needy families in Moore County, as well as for food vouchers at Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter. Last year’s Rummage Sale netted $6,350.

All donations for the sale must be useable. Clothing must be clean, sized and delivered in a box. Among suggested other items are kitchenware, knick-knacks, jewelry, shoes, hats, pocketbooks, belts, scarves, pictures, lamps, dishes, toys, bikes, and some types of furniture.

Questions about items or volunteering can be answered by calling Pat Phillips (673-1140) or Jean Keating (673-2778). Trucks will be available to deliver large items. All items must be delivered to the Olde West End Gym by noon, Friday, Oct. 10.

Clothing Sale

New Beginning Holiness Church Mission will hold a special sale of clothing. It is open daily from noon to 5 p.m, except for Sunday.

The mission accepts donations.

Adult Academy

The newly established Adult Academy of Religious Studies will hold a discussion of “The DaVinci Code” by Dan Brown on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m.

Don Welch, director of the academy, will lead the discussion in the kitchen of the Activity Center at West End Presbyterian Church. All are invited to participate in discussing the implications of this novel for the historic Christian Church.

The Adult Academy of Religious Studies will formally begin regular classes with a course on “Another Look at the Bible.” This will be an eight-week study meeting for 1½ hours each week. Adult students of any age may enroll in either a Thursday morning class beginning at 10 a.m. Oct. 2 or a Sunday evening class that will meet at 7 p.m. beginning Oct. 5. These studies will meet in The West End Presbyterian Church Library.

The academy is under the auspices of West End Presbyterian Church, but it is ecumenical in its approach and is open to people of all faiths or no faiths at all. There is no fee for the “DaVinci Code” discussion. The fee for the Introduction to Bible Studies Course will be $20 plus the cost of a textbook. Interested persons can call 673-4341 for additional information.

High Holy Days

At sundown on Sept. 26 through sundown on Oct. 6, Sandhills Jewish Congregation will observe High Holy Days beginning with Rosh Hashanah, the start of the Jewish New Year, and ending with Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. These two holidays are the holiest of the Jewish religion and this period is known as the “Days of Awe.”

On Rosh Hashanah our fate in the coming year is decreed, the Book of Life is opened, and in it is inscribed the fate of mortal man. The traditional greeting for this holiday is, “May you be written for a good year.”

Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, is observed by 24 hours of fasting and by prayers.

High Holy Day Services will be conducted by Rabbi Emeritus Floyd Herman.

All services will be held at Temple Beth Shalom, corner of Hoffman and Jackson Springs Roads, Foxfire Village. A ticket is required for entry. Non-members should call 673-5224. Services will be held as follows: Rosh Hashanah – Friday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. Oneg follows services.

Saturday, Sept. 27, 9 a.m.-children’s service; 10 a.m.-adult service.

Yom Kippur, Sunday, Oct. 5, 7 p.m.; Monday, Oct. 6, 9 a.m.-children’s service; 10 a.m.-adult service; 5 p.m.-Yizkor & Ne’ilah service; Break-the-Fast — 6:30 p.m. with reservations required by Oct. 1. Call 673-5224.

Shabbat services will be held Friday, Oct. 3, 7 p.m. Oneg will follow the service. Adult education will be held Saturday, Oct. 4, 10 a.m.

Beaver Creek Revival

Beaver Creek Baptist Church, at 2280 Nicholson Road, Cameron, will have a revival.

The revival will run from Sept. 21-24. The first service will start at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 21. Each night the service will begin at 7 p.m,. with the exception of Tuesday Sept. 22, which is “Youth Night.. On “Youth Night,” everything starts at 6 p.m., with all kinds of pizza and games.

The guest speaker will be Evangelist Jason Aldridge, who has been described as a “young man with a heart for God”.

A nursery will be provided. Anyone who needs a ride can call call 499-9632 to be picked up by the church van.

Initial Sermon

The Rev. Victor Blue will deliver his initial sermon at Jesus Is Lord Deliverance Center on Sept. 21 at 5 p.m.

The church is located on Laurinburg Hwy 15-501 in Aberdeen, about 2½ miles south of Burney Hardware.

Lakeview Chapel

Apostle Michael Dixon will be the featured speaker at a three-night revival at Lakeview Chapel Free Will Baptist Church Wednesday, Sept. 24, through Friday, Sept. 26, at 7:30 p.m. daily.

The church will celebrate its anniversary Sunday, Sept. 28, with a special service at 4 p.m. featuring Elder James Leach and Love Grove Church.

Video Series

Community Evangelical Church will offer a video series especially for women on Tuesdays beginning Sept. 23 and continuing through Nov. 4. The morning session will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the evening session will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. so that working women may attend. Refreshments will be served.

The videos are “Living Beyond Your Circumstances” (Sept. 23); ‘Hidden Keys to Loving Relationships (Sept. 30); “Depression in Marriage: Climbing Out of the Black Hole” (Oct. 7); “A Woman’s Guide to Handling Conflict” (Oct. 14); “A Woman’s Personality: Understanding Yourself and Others”; “Family Systems: Bad Patterns” (Oct. 28) and “Encouragement and Strategies for Single Moms” (Nov. 4).

Frye’s Chapel

Revival at Frye’s Chapel FWB Church will continue through Friday, Sept. 19 with services starting at 7:30 p.m. each evening.

Homecoming will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21.

Revival Planned

First Missionary Baptist Church, at 315 S. Gaines Street in Southern Pines, will hold its annual revival services Sept. 17-19, beginning at 7 o’clock nightly.

Bishop Ralph Donnie Graves of Greater Metropolitan Restoration Center in Greensboro will be the guest revivalist.

Annual Revival

The Holy Church of the Living Word will continue revival services through Friday, Sept. 19 at 7:30 p.m. each evening.

The speaker will be Pastor Sharon Belk. Accompanying her will be the Mt. Nebo church family of Ramseur.

Anniversary

The Greater Glory Pentecostal Deliverance Ministries of the New Apostolic Faith Inc. Women’s Fellowship will celebrate the climax of its sixth anniversary, Sunday, Sept. 21 at 5 p.m.

The theme is “ I’ve Got A New Attitude in Christ Jesus.” The service will be held at Greater Glory located at 180 Cotton Street in the Jackson Hamlet Community of Pinehurst. Evangelist Tramsome of Thomasville will be special guest speaker.

Culdee Homecoming

Culdee Presbyterian Church invites all interested persons to join them for Homecoming/Old Fashion Day and Revival on Sunday, Sept. 21. The morning worship service will be followed by a covered dish luncheon. Rev. Bill Stuart will be the guest minister for this year’s revival. Services will be held each evening, Sunday through Wednesday at 7 p.m.
