UP Boys Collect Cross Country Wins Second Win

The Union Pines boys’ cross country team is undefeated in the Tri-County Conference, while the girls have earned a split in the Vikings first two conference meets.

Both teams ran past High Point Central in their first conference meet of the season. Ashley Wahl (21:29), Hannah Gibson (22:36) and Dominque Andrews (22:46) swept the first three places in the High Point meet as the girls posted a 24-31 win.

Other Viking runners included Ana Maria Quiros seventh (25:38), Lauren Huff 10th (26:44), Ashley Trudeau 12th (28:14), Sharon Glazener 13th (28:29), Stephanie Sims 14th (29:06), Shanna Gwyn 15th (30:53), Sarah Brown 16th (31:44), Anna Bivans 17th (35:51), Stephanie Lynn 18th (35:53), Elizabeth Tem 19th (36:01) and Michelle Marion 20th (39:58).

The boys score was 20-39 as the Vikings placed seven runners in the top 10.

Brandon DiBianca took first-place honors with a time of 17:46. He was followed in the scoring by Tyson Seitz (second) at 18:32, David Walsh (fourth) at 19:16, Joseph Daley (sixth) 19:38, Josh Grimsley (seventh) 19:42, David Dunlap (ninth) 20:39 and Evan Roddenberry (10th) at 20:39.

Other Viking runners were Michael Tem 21:28, Blake Boyd 21:29, Tony Dimaio 21:36, Christian McKenzie 21:38, Phillip Picerno 23:43 and Travis Williams 33:51.

The Vikings split in their second conference meet at Southeast Guilford with the boys winning by a 21-35 score and the girls losing by a 21-40 score.

Once again DiBianca set the pace by claiming the overall win with a time of 18:43. Seitz ran 19:50 for a third-place finish, Dunlap finished fourth in a time of 20:24, Grimsley sixth in a time of 20:37 and Daley seventh with a time of 20:52 to round out the top-five scorers for the Vikings.

The other Vikings participating were Scott Dimaio, finishing in 10th (21:12), Dunlap 12th (21:25), Boyd 13th (21:36), Roddenberry 14th (21:37), Jarrett Korver 16th (22:18), Tony Dimaio 18th (22:21), Picerno 23rd (24:06), McKenzie 25th (24:27) and Charlie Lee 31st (29:40).

Cara Van Dorn and Kristi Uffman of Southeast were the top finishers in the girls’ race at 21:22 and 21:28, respectively. The Viking girls were led by Wahl, placing third in a time of 22:58 and Andrews fourth in a time 23:04.

Other Viking runners, included Gibson 11th (25:41), Huff 13th (26:11), Glazener 15th (27:53), Gwyn 20th (29:59), Sims 22nd (31:30), Krystine Craven 23rd (33:36), Stephanie Lynn 25th (38:08) and Elizabeth Tem 26th (38:20).

The Vikings were scheduled to race Ragsdale on Wednesday.
