Presentation

Living wills, health care power of attorney and other important documents will be the subject of a presentation at Doubs Chapel United Methodist Church on Sept. 11.

Chuck Moak, a patient representative in Risk Management at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, will be the guest speaker at the 7 p.m. program in the church Fellowship Hall.

“This is a service I try to provide to the community,” Moak said. “I will explain completion of the living will (or declaration of natural death) documents. I also will explain the difference between the living will and the ‘do not resuscitate’ paperwork.

“Some other things we will cover will be the health care power of attorney, which is different from the power of attorney that has to do with money,” Moak said.

The free session is open to everyone. Doubs Chapel Church is located at 1444 Doubs Chapel Road, West End.

Bicentennial Celebrated

On Sept. 14, First Presbyterian Church, PCA, of Ellerbe will hold a bicentennial celebration Sunday, Sept. 14, to celebrate God’s grace and blessings on the church over the course of the past 2090 years and to ask for his continued blessings for the future.

The service will start at 10:30 a.m. The church is on the corner of 3rd and Ballard streets in Ellerbe. A catered lunch will be held after the service, at Ellerbe Junior High School.

Special Meeting

Purple & Fine Linen Ministries, led by the Rev. Deborah Brown, will hold a special meeting on Monday, Sept. 22, in the music room at the Holly Inn in Pinehurst.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

Brown will deliver a message, and there will also be a drama presentation.

“I encourage religious leaders, ministers and business people to attend,” Brown says.

Rummage Sale

The annual Seven Lakes Chapel in the Pines Community Rummage Sale will be held Saturday, Oct. 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Olde West End Gym on Route 211.

Pat Phillips and Jean Keating are co-chairpersons of the event, which attracts persons from all over Moore County.

All proceeds are earmarked for the Community Christmas Fund and used for the purchase of gifts for needy families in Moore County, as well as for food vouchers at Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter. Last year’s Rummage Sale netted $6,350.

All donations for the sale must be useable. Clothing must be clean, sized and delivered in a box. Among suggested other items are kitchenware, knick-knacks, jewelry, shoes, hats, pocketbooks, belts, scarves, pictures, lamps, dishes, toys, bikes, and some types of furniture.

Questions about items or volunteering can be answered by calling Pat Phillips (673-1140) or Jean Keating (673-2778). Trucks will be available to deliver large items. All items must be delivered to the Olde West End Gym by noon, Friday, Oct. 10.

“More than 100 volunteers from the Seven Lakes community are involved in the preparation for and execution of the sale,” said Pat Phillips. “We very much appreciate the spirit with which our friends and neighbors have come forward for this event.”

Anniversary Celebration

Seven Lakes Baptist Church will celebrate 15 years of ministry Sunday.

The day of celebration includes a 10:30 morning service, followed by a covered dish dinner in the fellowship hall & concludes with a 6 o’clock evening concert.

The special guest speaker will be the Rev. Bobby Branch of Bristol, Tenn. Special morning music and the concert will be provided by the Griffith Family from Lexington.

Clothing Sale

New Beginning Holiness Church Mission will hold a special sale of clothing. It is open daily from noon to 5 p.m, except for Sunday.

The mission accepts donations.

Adult Academy

The newly established Adult Academy of Religious Studies will hold a discussion of “The DaVinci Code” by Dan Brown on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m.

Don Welch, director of the academy, will lead the discussion in the kitchen of the Activity Center at West End Presbyterian Church. All are invited to participate in discussing the implications of this novel for the historic Christian Church.

The Adult Academy of Religious Studies will formally begin regular classes with a course on “Another Look at the Bible.” This will be an eight-week study meeting for 1½ hours each week. Adult students of any age may enroll in either a Thursday morning class beginning at 10 a.m. Oct. 2 or a Sunday evening class that will meet at 7 p.m. beginning Oct. 5. These studies will meet in The West End Presbyterian Church Library.

The academy is under the auspices of West End Presbyterian Church, but it is ecumenical in its approach and is open to people of all faiths or no faiths at all. There is no fee for the “DaVinci Code” discussion. The fee for the Introduction to Bible Studies Course will be $20 plus the cost of a textbook. Beaver Creek Revival

Beaver Creek Baptist Church, at 2280 Nicholson Road, Cameron, will have a revival.

The revival will run from Sept. 21-24. The first service will start at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 21. Each night the service will begin at 7 p.m,. with the exception of Tuesday Sept. 22, which is “Youth Night.. On “Youth Night,” everything starts at 6 p.m., with all kinds of pizza and games.

The guest speaker will be Evangelist Jason Aldridge, who has been described as a “young man with a heart for God”. His travels have taken him all across the Southeast, including meetings in Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina and Virginia. He is interim pastor at South Hills Baptist Church in Cary. He lives in Raleigh with his wife and three children.

A nursery will be provided. Anyone who needs a ride can call call 499-9632 to be picked up by the church van.

Initial Sermon

The Rev. Victor Blue will deliver his initial sermon at Jesus Is Lord Deliverance Center on Sept. 21 at 5 p.m.

The church is located on Laurinburg Hwy 15-501 in Aberdeen, about 2½ miles south of Burney Hardware.

Lakeview Chapel

Lakeview Chapel Free Will Baptist Church will have a special service Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Elder Carl Core and Johnson Chapel will be featured.

Bishop J.C. Mclean and Inspiration Temple will render service at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Apostle Michael Dixon will be the featured speaker at a three-night revival Wednesday, Sept. 24, through Friday, Sept. 26, at 7:30 p.m. daily.

The church will celebrate its anniversary Sunday, Sept. 28, with a special service at 4 p.m. featuring Elder James Leach and Love Grove Church.

Video Series

Community Evangelical Church will offer a video series especially for women on Tuesdays beginning Sept. 23 and continuing through Nov. 4. The morning session will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the evening session will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. so that working women may attend. Refreshments will be served.

The videos are “Living Beyond Your Circumstances” (Sept. 23); ‘Hidden Keys to Loving Relationships (Sept. 30); “Depression in Marriage: Climbing Out of the Black Hole” (Oct. 7); “A Woman’s Guide to Handling Conflict” (Oct. 14); “A Woman’s Personality: Understanding Yourself and Others”; “Family Systems: Bad Patterns” (Oct. 28) and “Encouragement and Strategies for Single Moms” (Nov. 4).

“CEC’s Women’s Center would like to encourage you to find Biblical information and encouragement for the issues you face,” said a spokesman.

Church Women United

Church Women United was founded in 1941. It is a racially, culturally, theologically inclusive Christian women’s movement, celebrating unity in diversity and working for a world of peace and justice.

CWU has common goals: to grow in faith and to extend the vision of what it means to be a Christian woman of faith in society today; to strengthen visible ecumenical community; to work for a just, peaceful and caring society; to use responsibly and creatively the resources God has entrusted us — intelligence, time, energy, money — as we carry out our Christian mission through CWUd.

The Quadrennial Priority for 2000-2004 is strengthening families worldwide in the 21st century. addressing issues related to diversity and racism, health and health care, education, economic justice, media and technology.

Church Women United of Moore County meets on the first Friday of each month, September through June, at the United Methodist Church, Midland Road., Southern Pines. Celebrations are held in November, March and May of each year. A tour of churches is scheduled for Oct. 23.

Representatives of churches in Moore County are always welcomed and encouraged to join the Moore County group.

Women of the Chapel

The Women of the Chapel are kicking off their 2003-2004 season with a fun filled day on Sept. 18.

Those attending will board the bus in front of the chapel at 9:15 am and depart for a tour of the Southern Living Idea House in Chapel Hill. Lunch will be at Mama Dip’s and then on to Southern Seasons or Duke Gardens depending on the weather. Return by 5 p.m.

The total cost is $37 per person. Checks payable to the Village Chapel, P.O. Box 1060, Pinehurst by Sept. 12 will be a reservation.

Pastor’s Appreciation

Mt. Olive AME Zion Church will hold its Pastor’s Appreciation Service on Sunday. The pastor is the Rev. V.D. Dowdy.

The 11 a.m. worship program will feature Associate Minister Angela Davis from Mt. Olive A.M.E Zion Church. At the afternoon program at 3 p.m., the guest speaker will be the Rev. Raymond Mitchell, pastor of Mt. Zion AME Zion Church in Mt. Gilead.

Yard Sale

The West End Presbyterian Church will sponsor a yard sale Sept. 13.

Tables are for rent at $20 apiece. The church will do the organizing and advertising.

Singer

Singer Twinkie Clark Terrell of the Clark Sisters will preach and sing at God’s Love in Action Deliverance Ministries on Thursday, Sept. 11 and Friday, Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m. There is no admission charge.

Frye’s Chapel

Frye’s Chapel FWB Church will hold revival Monday, Sept. 15 through Friday, Sept. 19 with services starting at 7:30 p.m. each evening.

Homecoming will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21.

Carthage UMC

Carthage United Methodist Church will resume its weekly program for Christian nurture, the WEB, on Wednesday, Sept. 17. WEB stands for “We Encourage Believers.”

The evening will begin with a fellowship meal at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $3 per person.

From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. there will be activities for children, youth, and adults.

Those who plan to attend are asked to call the church office at 947-2705 and register for the meal. which is also our objective.

Carthage UMC is at 401 McReynolds St. (N.C. 24/27/22), about three blocks west of the old county courthouse.

Homecoming

Deep Creek Baptist Church will have homecoming services on Sunday, Sept. 14 at the 11 a.m. worship services.

Randy Glover will conduct the services with special singing and a covered dish lunch will follow in the fellowship hall.

Revival services will begin on Monday, Sept. 15 and continue through Friday, Sept. 19. Services begin at 7:30 p.m. The Rev. Egbert Craven will conduct the services.

Revival Planned

First Missionary Baptist Church, at 315 S. Gaines Street in Southern Pines, will hold its annual revival services Sept. 17-19, beginning at 7 o’clock nightly.

Bishop Ralph Donnie Graves of Greater Metropolitan Restoration Center in Greensboro will be the guest revivalist.

Annual Revival

The Holy Church of the Living Word will hold revival Monday, Sept. 15 through Friday, Sept. 19 at 7:30 p.m. each evening.

The speaker will be Pastor Sharon Belk. Accompanying her will be the Mt. Nebo church family of Ramseur.

A nursery will be provided for ages 2 to 9 years.
