In the girls’ competition, it was Westchester Academy over O’Neal by a score of 28 to 32. Individually it was Olivia Webb of O’Neal taking top honors, followed by O’Neal seventh-grader Lenae Simpson in second. Other scores for O’Neal were Marci O’Donnell in fifth, Stacy Hand in 11th and Jennifer Hayes in 13th.
The boys’ team race was won by Oak Ridge Military Academy with a score of 31. O’Neal was second with 53 and Westchester Academy was close behind with 54 points.
In the individual race, it was Ryan Wilcox of Oak Ridge in first with a time of 19:23. The first finisher for the O’Neal boys was sophomore Brandon Thompson taking third with a personal record for the course of 19:49. Second for O’Neal and fifth overall was seventh-grader Andy Wacker, also with a personal record of 20:39.
Other scorers for O’Neal were Chad Floyd in 13th, John Krahnert in 15th and Mike Cowherd in 17th.
“We’re a young team this year and have run the last two races without our senior captain Jesse Faulkner,” O’Neal coach Blake Smith said. “The young runners have stepped up their training and are getting results.”
