Autumnfest Features a Variety of Entertainment

The 23rd annual Autumnfest is scheduled for Saturday, October 6 at Downtown Park in Southern Pines. The festival takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and has something for everyone: arts and crafts, live entertainment, rides, a One-Mile Fun Run/Walk, a 5K Road Race, and much more!

Autumnfest entertainment will be headlined by The Legacy Band, at 3 p.m.

The Legacy Band is considered Raleigh’s hottest dance band. They play a variety of music.

International Strongman John Brookfield will also be performing his feats of strength at 12:00 p.m. John holds several world records and he may set another record during Autumnfest.

For our youth, Autumnfest will present the InterACTtive Theater of Jef at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Jef combines mime, masks, foolish props and other variety arts to involve the audience as willing participants in his performances. Filling out the entertainment slate will be the Academy of Tae Kwon Do (9:30 a.m. & 2:30 p.m.), Moore County Youth Chorale (10:30 a.m.), the Southern Pines After-School Kids (1 p.m.), and the dancing talents of Terpsichore-A Moving Experience (2 p.m.).

If you need to be more involved in the action, Autumnfest is the place to be.

For your creative side, you can join The Scrap Exchange from noon-4 p.m. under the Rainey Shelter and have fun recycling scraps of materials into toys, festive hats or original art. Autumnfest will also feature several inflatable rides such as the Castle Jump, Sumo Wrestling, miniature golf and more.

The One-Mile Fun Run/Walk gets underway at 9:30 a.m. and is free of charge. The 5K Road Race will begin at 9:50 a.m. and winds through beautiful Southern Pines into horse country and back. The cost of the 5K is $10 prior to September 29 and $12 the day of the race. The race entrance fee includes an Autumnfest T-shirt. To receive a race registration, call the Southern Pines Recreation and Parks Dept. at 910-692-2463.

Race registration on the day of the event will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Rainey Shelter. Awards will be presented at 11:15 a.m. at the Autumnfest stage.

Pets will not be allowed in the park during Autumnfest. For a small donation, Solutions for Animals will provide a comfortable area for you to “Park Your Pooch.”

This pet area will be located in front of the Police Station and will include water and treats for your pet.

“Autumnfest is a one-of-a-kind festival with many activities held in conjunction with an arts and crafts show,” says an Autumnfest spokesman. “Everyone is invited to come early to the picturesque setting of downtown Southern Pines for this annual Fall event presented by Aberdeen Coca-Cola Bottling Co., Johnny O’s Awards, Sandhills Trophy and Sports, Digital Design, Sprint, the Southern Pines Recreation and Parks Dept., and the Arts Council of Moore County.”
