ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Pinecrest’s Terrence Lee Recognized for Efforts

For his efforts in last Friday’s football game with Western Harnett, Pinecrest junior Terrence Lee has been selected the athlete of the week.

Operating as the lone back in the Pinecrest offensive formation, Lee ran through and around the Eagles for 173 yards in 28 carries in the 49-21 Pinecrest loss. He had 105 yards in the first half on just 13 carries. The second half may not have been as prolific yardage-wise for the junior, but he scored the first two touchdown of his varsity career on rushes of five and nine yards.

Lee was quick to acknowledge the job done by the Pinecrest offensive line Friday.

“They (offensive line) did a great job,” Lee said Tuesday, “especially John Smith and Nic Ingram. The offense did really well. I also want to give credit to God.”

In two games, Lee is averaging 6.2 yards a carry and has gained 268 yards in 43 carries. All the more impressive is the fact that Lee wasn’t even a running back last year for the junior varsity – he played on the defensive side of the ball.

“I was told that I was never going to be a running back,” he said, “so I worked hard at it.”

The 5-foot-7, 178-pound tailback has benched pressed 315 pounds and squatted 475 pounds. He has been timed at 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
