Pinehurst MGA: Ron Jasinski, Jerry O’Connell, Bill Noggle and John Maniskas led the field of 205 golfers with an overall score of 22-under par on No. 3 Aug. 26, playing two best balls of the foursome, 90 percent handicap, Nassau tournament.

Two teams tied at 19-under with the winner being decided by a match of cards. The winners were Bob Verzera, Dick Heilman, Jerry Lefton and Ball Jadlos over Andy Paesani, Dick Garrison, Gene Soltis and Jack Pritchard.

Front-nine honors went to the team of Phil Walter, Robison Walter, Earl Morey and Tony Montgomery at 13-under.

Bob Davis, Vito Giglio, Frank Corcoran and Bob Hilsby won second place at 12-under with third going to Don Nellis, Paul Pedersen, Don Hanson and Paul Mago at 11-under.

Back-nine winners were George Nagel, Peter Impastato, Bill Haggett and Dom D’Angelo at 11-under. Bruno Bednarz, Aldo Barbero, Mike Famiglietti and Dave Bidwell finished second at 10-under. George Drengler, Fred Behning, Dave Parsons and Jim Jepsen took third with 9-under.

Pinehurst Birdies: It was two best balls of the foursome tournament in the weekly Birdies event played on No. 5. Teams were composed of A & C players and B & D players.

Chiquita Hetrick, Marie Richmond, Shirley Potter and Dot Coleman, a B & D foursome captured first place at 125.

Second place went to Jeanette Schwartz, Marilyn Thomas, Addie Jones and Jean Mueller an A & C team at 126.

Doris Jacobsen, Josie Maniskas, Marion Mitchell & Sara Sutton, an A & C team, took third in a matching of cards at 128 withthe A & C team of Texi Burnell, Ann Wilckens, Mary Jane White and Gladys O’Connell finishing fourth.Mary Bradbury, Pat Heavy, Lucille Bartlett and Dee Rintz, A B & D team, won took fifth also at 128.

The B & D team of Barbara Wolfe, Myrnd Spencer, Mary Byrne and Barb Laughlin carded 129 to take sixth place.

Honors for seventh place at 130, with a match of cards, went to the A & C team of Bess Gabriel, Carol Mulcahy, Monica Cole and Jean Johnson with the team of Lynn Rieger, Alyne Jones, Lydia Nunno and Jane Fennie, a B & D team, the taking eighth place. The B & D team of Audrac Thibodeau, Ethel Hill, Joanne Drengler and Anne Culwick won ninth place with 131.

Jean Johnson, Bess Gabriel, Kathy Mangarell, Fran Schwehm, Gladys O’Connell, Texi Burnell, Sue Smith, Linn Ardner, Mary Claire Barry and Lydia Nunno scored birdies.

Foxfire Men’s Golf: In the Quota Tournament Dick McCleney and Pat Ogren tied at 42 to lead the event. Skip Beggs and Paul Dowdichuk tied at 41 for second with Dan Boelter and Wilson Ashley taking third with 40. Jack Reed, Jack Olsen and Bob Ryder all tied at 39 to complete the list of winners.

Foxfire Ladies Golf: The group played its fourth annual three-day Ryder Cup tournament on Aug. 24, 27 and Sept. 1. Jean Brown and Barbara Garcia captained the USA teams, dressed in combinations of red, white & blue. The European team dressed in blue and gold colors and Rhea Boelter and Barbara Arnold were captains.

After opening ceremonies conducted by club pro Tom Graeber, the first day of competition was underway on the Grey Fox course playing an alternate shot format. The second day was a better ball of the team format and was played on the Red Fox course. The third day was a match play format, a head-to-head battle, on the Red Fox course.

A luncheon celebration followed completion of play on the third day with awards given to the European team. The European team had won all three days of competition beating the USA team 25 points to 11 points. Team Europe now leads this annual event three to one.

Helen Hodde, Jan Dowidchuk, Jean Brown and Joette MacNichol took first place, with 129, in the two best balls of the foursome tournament that was played on the Grey Fox course. Second place winners, at 133, were Barbara Arnold, Judy Rankin, Bertha Christman and Anne Gehring.

Knollwood Sandblasters: Thirty-six players competed in the individual tournament with flight winners as follows: Bob Boland at 29, Fred Cirule at 30 and Dick Kelly at 32.

Flight B leaders were Rolf Rescan at 31, Ron Stevenson at 33 and George Brodrick at 34. Flight C had Ed Tobias leading with 28, Dick Heilman with 29 and Win Briggs with 31.

Low gross winners tied at 39 were Wallace Gourley and Bob Boland. Low net leaders, all tied at 29, were Bob Boland, Ed Tobias and Dick Heilman.

Dick Kelley and Ed Cade had birdies on #1 with Dick Heilman carding a bird on #9.

Beacon Ridge Women: Each player had to score net 71 or better in a beat the course tournament to qualify for the points that would determine the winner. Lynn Gorenflo and Marilyn Dumbleton received 8 points and Annette Castle placed third with 7 points.

Beacon Ridge MGA: In an individual Nassau tournament, the overall winner was Tom Silk with a net 70. Bill Roberson won the front-nine with a net 32 and Tom Silk won the back with a net 33. Curt Parsons and Bud Sales tied for second overall with net 7ls.

Second place on the front went to Boyd Covault with net 34, Terry Carraher and Jim Hurd tied for second on the back with net 34s. Third place overall was shared by Colen Swain, Lenny Stanislawck and Jim Hurd with net 72s. Third place for the front nine went to Ray MacKay, Curt Parson, Colen Swain, and Bud Sales who tied at net 35.

Par Seekers: In the weekly tournament, the following players were winners in their flights. In the first flight Pat Bryan took low gross with 84, Cathy Murphy & Rundi Berg tied at net 75 and Louise Pierce and Joan McCreedy tied for third at net 81.

Second flight winners were Susie Ray at 95 gross, Dot Burtis at 77 net and Flo DeSandy at 79 net. Ginger Addis had 102 low gross in the third flight with Lavon Pare at net 77 and Billie Joyce Hill at 78 net. Charlotte Donovan had 116 gross, Mary Lou Forrest net 82 and Muriel Thonet net 84 in the fourth flight.
