With the departure of our county manager, David McNeill, what comes next? Even though I feel reasonably sure his replacement will be competent, we have lost a great asset to this County. What is most disturbing is that he leaves before Michael Holden and Virginia Saunders even take office for the next term on the Board of County Commissioners.

It's no surprise he felt his job would end as a result of the election and the politics that are involved. If two people can yield such power before taking office, then what do we have to look forward to after they are in place?

Politics often cloud issues that formerly were black or white and now appear gray. With every decision the commissioners make, the very first consideration should always be, is this the right thing to do? Not if it is popular, affects certain people, or is best for our county. While these are important, first decide in your heart is this right or wrong and then stand by it.
