No Sour Grapes in Saying Rep. Morgan Sold Out
In Richard Morgan’s mind, anyone who disagrees with him, and gosh forbid opposes him, is a sour-grape extremist.”
The voters elected a Republican majority to the House, in opposition to the Democrats’ failed policies of higher taxes and busted budgets. What is so extreme about criticizing Morgan for betraying the Republican majority in the House, and those who voted for them, by making a deal for himself with the Democrats?
The Pilot Opinion page claims that Morgan has done a good job as co-speaker by quickly approving a balanced state budget. The problem is that the two-year budget Morgan and the Democrats passed in April in the House is, again, out of balance by $1 billion, even after Morgan paid off his Democratic patrons by delivering 17 Republican votes for over more than $800 million in higher income and sales taxes.
And to think, the once fiscally conservative Richard Morgan sold out to the Democrats so he could have a low-numbered license plate. Unfortunately, North Carolina's families will have to pay millions of dollars in higher taxes for Morgan’s license plate. But if those families dare complain about higher taxes and busted budgets, Morgan will simply say they are sour-grape extremists.€¯
