Bennett Handled It Well

Maybe in addition to having some fun at William Bennett’s expense, we could also take a lesson from the way in which he has handled this obviously embarrassing situation.

Unlike the way many of our liberal friends have handled revelations of their own moral shortcomings, Bennett has admitted his mistakes and has apologized to his supporters. He has even vowed to make positive changes in his life with respect to this “vice” of gambling.

Many of the same critics of Bennett see nothing wrong with the state sponsoring gambling in the form of a lottery, even though, unlike Mr. Bennett, many of the citizens drawn in by the promise of easy money by lottery advertisements will not be able to afford the money they will spend on this state-sponsored vice.
