Then came the denial followed by anger and eventually acceptance along the lengthy road back to health. It took the care of medical staffs, the love and patience of spouse and family and some hard work on our part.
But for many years now a majority of us recover to enjoy life long after those three little words seemed like a death warrant. Cancer is no longer the certain killer it once was. For this we have reason to celebrate. That is why there is an annual nationwide Cancer Survivors Day.
The cancer survivors of the Sandhills will have an extra joyous celebration Friday, May 30, at 5 p.m. in Owens Auditorium on the campus of the Sandhills Community College. This will be our 10th annual Sandhills Cancer Survivors Day celebration. All cancer survivors come and join us in a happy time of celebrating life. Bring your family. There will be singing, laughing, dancing and prizes.
And for the grand finale, there will be the big cookout dinner.
Most of us celebrate every morning and thank our higher power that cancer didn’t beat us. Now, on May 30, we can all celebrate together along with many members of the oncology teams that helped save our lives. Come one, come all. Laugh and be merry.
See you at Owens Auditorium, May 30, 5 p.m.
