Earmark Tax Revenues For School Technology

We are a rich county in many ways, but our public school system ranks near the bottom in the state in providing computers for our children. A request by school officials for a separate source of funding for technology needs similar to that provided for Emergency Medical Services is fair and reasonable.

A property tax assessment of 3-4 cents per $100 of valuation dedicated to this specific need would eliminate unnecessary time and expense in making annual requests and reviews. And as the tax base continues to grow it would provide a steady source of funds to keep up to date with this vital need of our children.

I believe this is the fairest way, too, because all property owners contribute. And it would take politics out of the mix.
