Religions Can Coexist
The Rev. Ian J. Smith’s letter in the May 16 Opinion section reminds me of a book I recently read by Thich Nhat Nanh titled “Living Buddha, Living Christ.” Nhat Hanh, a Buddhist monk who was expelled from his native Vietnam for his peaceful beliefs, analyzes both Christianity and Buddhism and finds many common bonds between them. Nhat Hanh teaches us that not only can our two religions coexist peacefully but that they can actually complement one another.
I encourage all those with an open mind and a willingness to bridge the gap between our religions to read this short but powerful book.
