This is a heads up concerning a movement that is taking over this country, including Moore County. At present there are upwards of 200 hundred women who wear red hats and purple dresses and belong to this very loose organization.

The started five years ago in California, and word spread like wildfire among the women who had read the poem that goes “When I am an old woman I shall wear purple with a red hat that doesn’t suit me...” by Jenny Joseph.

Last year there were more 25 Red Hatters in the Pinehurst Fourth of July parade. They made such an impression that a local artist did a painting of one truckload and displayed the painting in Campbell House.

The Red Hatters will ride again in the parade this year and you might want to take note since there are lots of us Old Ladies in your reading area.

If you need more information on this movement, please contact either queenmother@redhatsociety.com or Cynthia Glansdorp cynthiakg@nc.rr.com. She is the ‘queen mom’ in our area and has a great deal of background information.
