They sacrifice so we may prosper in peace. The outstanding service of our law enforcement officials sustains and protects our progress.
Crime is not somebody else’s business. We are all affected by it and responsible to contribute in the fight against it. Effectual response is socially concerned, proactive and aimed at helping people.
Crises characterize life for law enforcement. Officers volunteer to intervene in various situations in which their lives are often endangered. It can only be a genuine appreciation for people and community that leads officers to make sacrifices for us.
I was privileged to observe one of our officers. Sgt. Carl Colasacco of the Aberdeen Police Department, at work last week. I found myself working with him to a hurting citizen’s cry for help. I went there to contribute to someone else’s life and left having received far more than I gave. Amazing is the only way to describe the patience and compassion with which Sgt. Colasacco served that day. His family, his fellow law enforcement officers and our community should be proud and grateful to have such an outstanding man on our side.
May we make it our business to learn how we can contribute to making our community a safer place to live. May we make it our business to recognize and actively appreciate our law enforcement officials and their families. May we make it our business instead of criticizing the efforts of others.
