Traffic Circle Is Outdated

I am appalled that the Pinehurst Village Council has redirected traffic and closed off Dalrymple and Short roads because of residents’ complaints about through traffic using these streets to avoid the Traffic Circle.

This action is typical of the supercilious attitude of many Pinehurst residents.

I’m a taxpayer and value my time as much as the next person. If I can find a way around the congested Traffic Circle and abide by the posted speed limits and other road signs, why would I not? Wouldn’t the road’s residents do the same if the situation were reversed? My federal, state, and county tax dollars aren’t diverted away from projects encompassing those roads. I pay for the use of all public thoroughfares.

The Traffic Circle should be an embarrassment to Pinehurst and the engineers who planned it. During most business hours Monday through Friday, the traffic is hopelessly backed up at the U.S. 15-501 and N.C. 211 feeds in all directions. Very seldom does the flow of traffic around the circle run smoothly. The exploding population in Moore County and the projection for its effect on the Traffic Circle were obviously not considered in the plans for the restructuring of the circle. It seems the emphasis was on aesthetics.

Let’s face it, folks. The Traffic Circle is outdated. It’s a thing of the past. Let it stay in the past. Tax dollars are hard to come by. Let’s spend them wisely. Build roads that make sense.
