The donated glasses have been sent to our regional eyeglasses-recycling centers, where they are cleaned, sorted by prescription and prepared for distribution by Lions and other groups. The refurbished glasses are distributed to the poor in developing countries around the world.
By donating your old glasses, you helped improve the life of someone in need. In most developing nations, eye care is either unaffordable or inaccessible. And for many, poor eyesight that is left uncorrected can lead to unemployment for adults and a child’s inability to attend school.
The Southern Pines Lions would also like to express our appreciation to Carolina Eye Associates, The Prescription Shoppe, Spectrum Family Eye Care Center, Sandhills Optical and Russell’s Fish and Seafood House for contributing to the projects success by serving as convenient drop-off points. We are also grateful to The Pilot for helping publicize this and our other humanitarian projects.
Anyone that did not get the chance to donate their glasses but would still like to, please drop them off at one of the above-listed drop-off places. Those interested in learning more about other Southern Pines Lions activities, call 692-2337.
Thanks again for helping us fulfill our motto, “We Serve.”
