Recently, a third-grade child in our school complained to her mother that a classmate had called her a Democrat. I was rather amused that a 9-year-old would associate the term with the defaming of her character.

It has been somewhat of a dilemma coming up with a suitable punishment. On the one hand, there is the problem of punishing the offender for being so politically observant. On the other hand, there is the problem of vindicating the honor of the offended. I have considered giving the offender the money to buy each other an ice cream along with the admonition that two Republicans should be able to get along.
