I would like to make a suggestion for handling the traffic problems that occurred at this year’s fireworks at the Pinehurst Harness Track.

We were one of many motorists thinking that we could exit right on Morganton Road at the gate. Upon finding it closed many drivers waiting to exit chose to cross the green and go out the cart path.

With gas prices as high as they are, a 45-minute wait is a long time. I suggest that they open the gate and place cones if needed to direct traffic.

The fireworks were spectacular, and the community must have heard as the crowd was much larger this year than the year before. I hope that all those responsible for next year’s celebration will take steps to plan for a better exit.
