Remember the movie "Network"? After years in the business, a media king screams out the window to the unconcerned masses below, "I've had it. I am not going take it any longer!"
Well, I've had it with politicians. This year's election campaigns have forced me to open my window and scream, "I am not going to take it any more." I describe myself as a progressive conservative, independent voter. Therefore I announce my platform for all future elections.
1. No endorsements by local papers that would endorse a rattlesnake if it wore a certain party label.
2. Term limits for all local, state and federal officers. For U.S. Senate, one six-year. For the U.S. House of Representatives, one 4 year term. For N.C. governor, a 20-year jail term for stealing from the poor, the Golden LEAF Foundation and state workers' funds.
3. All candidates must contribute matching dollars to charity as they spend on their campaigns. In the N.C. case, both Senate candidates should have donated the $20 million they used to pay for their sick ads to the state treasury rather than fill our air waves with hate and disingenuous statements.
4. Campaigns cannot start before Nov. 1 of any year.
5. Celebrities from out of state must donate $1 million to N.C. charities for each word spoken during endorsements.
6. Any party that turns a memorial service into a political rally will be disbanded, and its U.S. Senate candidate put in federal prison for 20 years for a crime against humanity.
8. Force all candidates running for County Commissioner to read Dale Carnegie's new book "How to Win Friends and Speak to Each Other."
