I was told that the plows “might come through later today but probably tomorrow” and that we probably would not receive any salt and sand because “we’ve already used up our budget.”
Upon further questioning, the gentleman at DOT stated that the snow removal budget was funded by our gasoline tax, that they had already used up the money in the budget and we had not even started winter yet. To say that I was incredulous is to say the least. We pay some of the highest gas prices in this area because of our retired well-to-do, and I would assume that our share of the gas tax on this comes back to us.
How can we expend our snow-removal money before the first snowstorm is over? Is it being used for other purposes? Linden Road was a skating rink after the storm and now it appears that during any further snow this winter DOT is going to be a no-show and taxpayers are going to be on their own.
