Junking Junk Mail

Regarding Don Winslow’s column of Nov. 28 on junk mail:

A good way to get rid of junk mail (and help make Moore County beautiful), is to write to Mail Prospect, P.O. Box 9008, Farmingdale, N.Y. 11735, give them your name and address and ask to have your name removed from all lists.

It takes three months or so, but it really works.

Another way to cut down on junk is to call the 800 number of any catalogs you receive and ask them to remove your name from their mailing lists. With the cost of postage rising, most mail-order merchandisers are more than happy to oblige.

A final way to address junk mail is when you place a phone order with a merchandiser, before you place the order, tell them you will not place the order unless they can guarantee that your name will not be given or sold to another company.
