Questions About Widening

In the months-long controversy of possibly widening N.C. 211, with considerable coverage and now editorial (Aug. 16) by The Pilot, two questions have not been answered by anyone.

How could the new dual-lane road be ready for the “safe” flow of traffic for the U.S. Open in 2005, when N.C. DOT will not begin construction until 2004? I have yet to see any state DOT complete a major highway of 211’s proportions in less than a year!

Secondly, where is all the traffic on this “convenient” dual lane highway going when it ends at Page Road just before the traffic circle? It is not convenient or expeditious to be in a mile-long backup awaiting one’s turn at Page Road or the circle after enjoying eight miles of smooth flowing traffic.

Answer these logical questions with clarity from informed sources, and then we area residents will have some facts to decide how best to alleviate the traffic build-up in southern Moore County.
