All Birdies, No Bogeys

Birdie: By Dr. Carl Berk, the surgeon who operated on Jimmy, Cathy and Constance Holdsworth and miraculously repaired the damage inflicted on the children by a knife-wielding throat slasher.

Birdie: By Peggy Kirk Bell, Kelly Miller and their staff at Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club, for their successful staging of this week’s U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship.

Birdie: By state Sen. Howard Lee, D-Orange, for his crucial role in the General Assembly’s 11th-hour decision to save the Poultry Disease Diagnostic Laboratory at Robbins from budgetary doom.

Birdie: By Dr. Walter S. Morris III, for being named Physician of the Year at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
