Southern Pines Civic Club Holds Candidates’ Forum Oct. 23

One of the main objectives of the Civic Club, founded in 1907 by Helen Boyd Dull, aunt of writer James Boyd of Weymouth, was keeping the community involved and informed at all levels in town affairs.

Presenting candidates running for town offices in various formats to the attention of the citizens of Southern Pines was one of those efforts. The Club continues to honor and follow that early legacy.

Dorothy Shankle, Community Affairs chairman, has announced that a Town Council Candidate(s) Forum will be held on Oct. 23 at 4 p.m. at the Civic Club located at 105 S. Ashe Street, Southern Pines. The public is invited.

Chris Smithson and David Woodruff are running for re-election. John McInerney and Jerome Ingram, both former councilmen, are running for election.

Each candidate will have a period of time to present their plans and views for serving on the Southern Pines Council. The audience will then be invited to ask questions addressed to the candidates.

A reception hosted by the Civic Club will be held immediately following the forum.

Elections will be held Nov. 1.
