‘Energy of Arts’ Slated at Museum

On Saturday, Nov. 6, the Carolina Ballet, the North Carolina Symphony, the North Carolina Theatre, and the Opera Company of North Carolina come together for the first time at the North Carolina Museum of Art to present “Energy of the Arts” — North Carolina’s richest arts celebration ever.

Presented by Progress Energy and organized by Artsplosure and the N.C. Museum of Art, the celebration brings together the State’s cultural titans for a day of music, dance, theater, and visual art. “Energy of the Arts” takes place in the Joseph M. Bryan, Jr. Theater in the Museum Park at the N.C. Museum of Art.

“’Energy of the Arts’ focuses on the abundance of the arts and cultural opportunities in the area,” said Tammy Brown, manager of Corporate Community Relations. “This is the first time the community has been offered the opportunity to enjoy all of these groups together in one place, at one time, for free.”

Members of each group will perform three times during the day. One-hour performances start at 10 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m. The celebration also features children’s activities, roving performers, and food and drink concessions.

Robert Weiss and the Carolina Ballet, North Carolina’s internationally acclaimed ballet company, will present a specially choreographed program for the event.

The North Carolina Symphony will present its brass quintet percussion trio. New Music Director Grant Llewellyn will join the festivities at 10 a.m.

The North Carolina Theatre will showcase a series of Broadway songs from their upcoming season with the Kids on Broadway Chorus and selected adult performers.

The Opera Company of North Carolina will present soloists Lucy Yates, Christine Weidinger, John Oliver, Cecily Anne Boyd, and the company’s Opera Chorus (“The Anvil Chorus”).

The North Carolina Museum of Art will offer a $3 discount on regular admission to “Matisse, Picasso and the School of Paris: Masterpieces from The Baltimore Museum of Art” for the entire day.

In addition to performances, Energy of the Arts will feature special activities. Visitors can meet performers and participate in hands-on workshops. Visitors can also buy merchandise and tickets for upcoming performances by the participating arts groups

In case of inclement weather, performances and activities will move inside to the Museum’s education lobby and auditorium.
