Monday afternoon the Patriots made it two wins and a tie over that span with a one-stroke victory over the Raiders at Scotch Mead-ows Golf Club in Laurinburg.
The Patriots’ Sara Cole put together a round of 42-42—84 to earn medalist honors by two strokes over the Raiders’ Amanda Moss.
Teammate Michelle Sohn tied the Raiders’ Heather Atkins with a round of 88, her best this season. Also figuring in the winning team score of 370 were Amy Brazaski with a 98 and Caitlin Miller with a 100.
The third and fourth spots in the team results went to host Scotland County (390) and Jack Britt (416).
The regular season ends with another match at Scotch Meadows next Monday at 1 p.m.
PHS Netters Win
The Pinecrest volleyball team tuned up for Tuesday’s important conference match against Jack Britt with a 25-15, 25-23 and 25-16 non-league victory over Western Harnett at home Monday evening.
The Patriots got a balanced team effort while improving to 17-2 overall on the season. The kill leaders were Stephanie Carter (12), Ashley Craven (nine) and Ashley Dickerson (eight). The assist leaders were Veronika Mlada (11), Ayana Davis (nine) and Bethany Page (four). Monique Jones (12), Mlada (eight), Craven (seven) and Page (five) were the serving leaders.
The Patriots took an 8-1 record in the Mid-Southeastern Conference into the match against Jack Britt. Conference action continues on Thursday with a contest at Westover beginning with the jayvee match at 5 p.m.
The Pinecrest jayvee team was also victorious Monday, defeating Western Harnett 25-14 and 25-10.
Vikes Lose in Soccer
Four second-half goals by Trinity saddled the Union Pines boys’ soccer team with a 5-1 Tri-County Conference loss at home Monday evening.
The Vikings knotted the match at 1-1 in the 32nd minute when Troy Hadlock finished a loose ball off a free kick by Carson McLean.
It stayed that way until a flurry of goals about a third of the way through the second half put the game under the command of the Bulldogs.
The Vikings took a 2-4 league and 6-4 overall mark into Tuesday’s match at Asheboro. On Thursday, they are scheduled to play in a 7 p.m. contest at Ragsdale. The win improved the Bulldogs’ record to 3-3 and 8-4.
Trinity defeated the Vikings 3-1 in the junior varsity match.
PPK Winners Named
The Southern Pines Recreation and Parks Department and the Pinehurst Parks and Recreation Department held a local NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition for youth ages 8–15. The event was held at the Memorial Park in Southern Pines.
Winners will advance to Burlington Cummings High School on Saturday, Oct. 18, to compete against other local winners from the central part of North Carolina.
Local winners included Joshua Roberts, boys 8-9; Michael Johnson, boys 10-11; Allyson Parziale, girls 10-11; Blake Trail, boys 12-13; Justin Winstead, boys 14-15; and Brittany Trail, girls 14-15.
The competition consisted of one throw, one pass, and one kick. Points were awarded based on distance and accuracy.
Winners in Burlington will have a chance to advance to the Carolina Panthers team championship after comparing scores from competitions in North and South Carolina.
