Get Out and Vote

This is a message for the voters in Whispering Pines. On election day, vote!

Here’s why. There are five registered candidates and two write-ins for just two seats on the Village Council. With this large number of candidates, the votes are sure to be widely spread with the two winners perhaps having very slim margins of victory. This means that an individual’s vote could well be decisive. So don’t stay at home and depend on your neighbor to get the job done.

The complexion of the village is changing. No matter how much we might wish it to stay the same place we fell in love with when we came here, it’s not going to happen. When many of us moved here, village residents were mostly retirees. We never saw a school bus. Now we have many young families, and school busses are a common feature.

In recent months, as a village we’ve been plagued by adverse publicity, harassment of some village employees, disruptions in the operation of our fire and police departments, and subtle and not-so-subtle attempts to undo or discredit legally and properly constituted council actions, particularly the hiring of our new and highly qualified police chief.

Where we go from here and how we get there will depend in large measure on who is elected to the council. Your vote can make a difference, so please take time to go to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
