SYSL Rec League Enters Final Weeks

Time flies when you’re having fun. Sandhills Youth Soccer League’s Recreation League must be having fun because the season that just got started a few short weeks ago is in its final weeks.

Recreation teams have two or three games remaining and standings in each division are shaping up as the league tournament approaches.

U8 Division

The U8 boys’ division is a neck-and-neck race between the Gunners and Pirates. Both squads are undefeated at 5-0-0 for the season. The Wanderers and Hotspurs are locked in another two-way race at 4-1-0 each, while the Athletics trail at 3-1-0.

Flash and Pride lead the U8 girls with identical 6-0-0 records. Shock moved into the second spot with its win over Surge. A 6-0 loss to Flash dropped Force to third place.

U10 Division

Newcastle edged Arsenal 2-0 last week to take sole possession of the top spot among the U10 boys with a 5-0-1 record. Arsenal drops to second ahead of Charlton, a 3-2 winner over Blackpool. Leeds dropped from third to fifth place after losing to Tottenham 4-0. Tottenham takes over fourth place.

In the U10 girls’ race, the Breakers move ahead of the Cyberrays for the third spot after overpowering Power 3-1. Spirit and Courage hold on to numbers one and two, respectively. Spirit is perfect for the season at 6-0-0.

U12 Division

The U12 standings stay tight with Crew out front in the boys’ group, followed by the Metrostars, United, Earthquake and Fire.

The Tornadoes lead the girls’ rankings with an unblemished 5-0-0 showing. Storm and the Hurricanes are in the second slot with identical 2-2-1 totals. Blizzard slipped this week with a loss to the Tornadoes, while Lightning’s open date helped them move ahead of Blizzard.

U14/15 Division

Gemini, Mercury, the Rockers and Fever hold on to their spots at 1,2,3,4, respectively, in the U14 girls’ standings. Gemini has a comfortable lead at 6-0-0, with Mercury trailing at 4-2-0.

Burn is in the U15 boys’ driver’s seat with a 4-1-1 tally after a 6-1 win over the Wizards. Revolution took Galaxy by a 3-1 margin to move into a draw with the Wizards for the runner-up position.
