Bridge News: Area Groups Report Results from Week’s Play

Chicago Bridge

Twenty-six particpated in the Belle Meade Chicago Bridge on Sept 19.

Nancy’s Game

Nancy’s Game meets at the Regency on Morganton, which is just west of Turnberry Wood to the right off Morganton Road. from 15-501 or a left turn right after Lawn & Tennis coming from Rt. 5.

The game is ACBL sanctioned and non-smoking, with computer scoring and refreshments.

Nancy’s Second Game

This game is an ACBL sanctioned, Non-Life Master Game restricted to NLMs with 0-500 MPS, non-smoking with refreshments and computer scoring. Swiss Teams are held on the third Friday of each month.

Nancy’s Other Game

This is an open game with no masterpoint restrictions held at the Southern Pines Civic Club, corner of Pennsylvania and Ashe, Southern Pines every Wednesday afternoon with refreshments, non-smoking and computer scoring.

A side section will be held for NLM with 0 – 300 pts. Two and one-half tables are required for this second section. Call Nancy for partners or information.

Sandhills Bridge Studio

The schedule of games is as follows: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday,open games at 1 p.m.; Tuesday and Friday, open games at 7:30 p.m. On Tuesday at 1 p.m., the game is limited to players with less than 100 master points

Friday mornings at 10 a.m., a mentor program is offered.

Life Masters play with our new players to offer advice and help them improve their game. Every Sunday a wine & cheese party is included with the game.

All games are ACBL sanctioned and non-smoking. Lessons are available for all levels of play.

Special Events

  • Singles Bridge every second Saturday at 7 p.m. The October session on the 11th will not be held because of a conflict in scheduling. The next session will be on Nov. 8

  • The Mentoring Program continues every Friday morning at 10 a.m. Participants are asked to bring their own lunch.

  • Saturday Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m., there is a Pro/Am Swiss Team game. Sign up as a pair and teammates will be assigned.

  • Saturday Oct. 18, we will host the unit finals of the North American Pairs. This is a two session event starting at 10 a.m. and is sectional rated. Points earned will be Gold and Red. You must have qualified in a Club Qualifying game to participate.

  • Saturday Oct. 25 is a combination Newcomer/Halloween Party. This will be a Pro/Am. Sign up individually and pairs will be assigned. Festivities will begin with a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. followed by a Charity Club Championship game at 7:30. Sandhills Duplicate Bridge Players Association will supply wine and soft drinks. There is an extra charge of $1 for the ACBL Charity Foundation. Costumes are optional and prizes will be awarded for the most original.

  • An advanced class based on Audrey Grant’s “More Commonly Used Conventions” will be held sometime in October. Class will be limited to 12 so sign up early. Call the Studio for further details.

  • Plan to visit the studio on Sunday, Nov. 2. We will celebrate our first anniversary on that day. At noon we will have a reception for all of our friends, followed by a free session of Bridge at 1 p.m.

    “With your help and support we have accomplished much in just one year,” said a spokesman. “Join us in our ‘thank you’ celebration.”
