Randolph Community College Presenting Drama
Randolph Community College’s first dramatic production, “The Good Doctor,” will be performed this fall by the newly formed Xenurine Theatrical Company. The play will be performed on Nov. 2, 3 and 4 at 8 p.m. in the Learning Resources Center auditorium on the Asheboro Campus.
“The Good Doctor” is a play by Neil Simon based on Anton Chekhov short stories. It was first presented at the Eugene O’Neill Theater, New York City, on Nov. 27, 1973. The play consists of a series of sketches with a small cast and a large range of roles. The narrator, a character based on Chekhov himself, leads the audience through these comical sketches. The sketches include the horrible repercussions of a sneeze, the problems faced by a man who drowns himself for a living, and the issues of a father of a 19-year-old boy.
Cast members include Jason Cirone, an Associate in Arts student from Asheboro; Ryan DeVari, a Continuing Education student from Asheboro; Terra Tackett, an Associate in Arts student from Trinity; Tyra Tesseneer, an Accounting student from Shelby; Andrew Stinson, a Floriculture Technology student from Ramseur; and Tim Williamson, an Associate in Arts student from Asheboro. Charlotte Welch is the stage manager.
Philip Shore, executive director of the Randolph Arts Guild, will direct the play. RSVP is providing much support for RCC’s first endeavor with set design and lighting. RCC students may be admitted free by showing their RCC ID cards at the door; tickets for the general public will cost $5 with children 12 and under admitted free.
