Commissioners To Hold Six Hearings

Six public hearings are on the agenda for today’s meeting of the Moore County Board of Commissioners.

The board convenes at 6 p.m. in the historic courthouse in downtown Carthage for its regular third Monday meeting.

All six hearings pertain to planning and zoning matters.

The Moore County Planning Board has recommended amendments to the countywide zoning ordinance regarding churches and their customary uses. Customary uses include on-premise child care, fellowship halls and playgrounds.

Amendments to the articles covering the highway corridor overlay district and buffers and screening will be discussed in another hearing.

Amendments are also proposed to the watershed overlay district regulations and to the text of the zoning ordinance. The text changes would allow an additional dwelling for each 10 acres of land.

A rezoning hearing has been called at the request of Herman Pusser, who has asked for the rezoning of property at the intersection of N.C. 211 and Love Grove Church Road. The property is now zoned Business-2 and he has requested that the zoning be changed to Rural Agricultural-40.

The final hearing will cover proposed additions to the county road name list.

In other business, the commissioners will be asked to pass a resolution approving a reimbursement agreement to construct a turn lane on N.C. 22 at Hillcrest Park.

Before the regular meeting, the commissioners will hold separate work sessions.

The first one will be at 3:30 p.m. with the Airport Authority at the Agriculture Center. The second will at 4:30 for a briefing from the Board of Elections at the elections office.
