June V. Small

June Volck Small, 88, a resident of Penick Village, died Wednesday (Oct. 5, 2005) in Pinehurst.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today (Friday) at Penick Village in Southern Pines.

Mrs. Small was born on Nov. 25, 1916, in Ocean Grove, N.J., to the late Harry Edward Volck Sr. and Marie Annetta Snedeker. She married G. Milton Small Jr. on Feb. 20, 1942, in Washington, D.C. The couple moved to Raleigh in 1948, where they lived until 1990. Mr. Small died in 1992.

Mrs. Small loved golf and politics and being with her friends and family. She was a great reader of politics and opinion, frequently sending the editors of The Pilot her considered opinion, and also passing on her wisdom to her children and grandchildren. She loved modern architecture and was active in having several of her late husband’s architectural works being placed on the Historic Register.

Surviving are her daughter, June Marie Small and son, George Milton Small III, and his wife, Susie, all of Raleigh; a brother Harry Edward Volck Jr. of North Plainfield, N.J.; grandchildren, George Milton Small IV of Ketchum, Idaho, and Stuart Walton Small of Panama City Beach, Fla.
