Legal Theft

This is a matter that concerns all Moore County taxpayers. I have lived in Moore County for over 15 years and love it here. I pay my taxes when I receive the tax bill for property tax. This year the tax board has seen fit to start a garnishment on wages for collection process — in short, a little red ink stamped on your bill.

The way this is being conducted is just plain legal theft. I called the courthouse to see why I had to pay the $30 fee, and the reply was for the processing of the paperwork for garnishment.

Clearly if you run up there and pay the tax with interest, then there are no expenses for paperwork. If there are no papers to be filed, then why should we have to pay? Why should the county get to keep the $30 fee? They told me it will not be refunded.

I own two automobiles and paid the tax for one when I received the bill last month. I never received a bill for the the second automobile in question, nor was I told that the tax was due on the second vehicle when I was paying for the tax on the first vehicle.

In the past you could not renew your tags on your vehicle until your tax was paid in full. That seemed to work fine and the tax was always collected with a fair interest. Now it seems we are getting gouged from all sides. Even the local government wants to get in on taking more money from the taxpayers of Moore County. I feel this is very unjust.
