The public is invited to attend this timely talk, which will begin at 11:30 a.m. at The Paddock Restaurant at Longleaf Country Club on Midland Road in Southern Pines.
Greenwood, who retired to Pinehurst nine years ago after 35 years in Industrial Relations/ Human Resources, spent 11 years as a volunteer mediator and arbitrator for the criminal, civil, juvenile, and family courts of New York State.
In July 2004, she attended a four day Smithsonian program in Washington, D.C., on “International Washington,” which included visits to the U.S. State Department, Foreign Service Institute, National Defense University, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the International Monetary Fund, the U.S. Institute of Peace, and several embassies.
The program was strenuous, but so exciting that Greenwood returned in April 2005 for another four-day program on “Legal Washington: How Laws Are Made, Practiced, Enforced and Reported.”
The program’s 12-hour days included visits to the Senate and House, the FBI, the U.S. International Trade Commission, the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. Department of State, various law firms, the Georgetown University School of Law, City Hall, and the U.S. Supreme Court for a meeting with Justice Ginsburg and to hear an oral argument with all nine justices — Ginsburg, Souter, Scalia, Stevens, Rehnquist, O’Connor, Kennedy, Thomas, and Breyer.
Greenwood’s talk will be about that visit to the Rehnquist court.
In addition to her interest in the U.S. court system, Greenwood is actively involved in local recycling efforts and also enjoys tennis, books, working out, and traveling.
She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, and a master’s degree from Syracuse University. Prior to retirement, she and her husband Thomas lived for 40 years in Rochester, N.Y. They have three children, Gayle, Scott, and Lynn, who now reside in Virginia and Washington, D.C.
