The program following the 10 a.m. business meeting will feature Cameron Slade who will speak on “The Moore Country Hounds: The Story of Weymouth and the Hunt.”
Slade was born in Savannah, Ga., and when she was 12 years old, her family moved to Southern Pines to be near her grandmother’s sister, Ginnie Moss. Before moving to Southern Pines, she spent family vacations in the area and hunted with the Moore County hounds since she was 6 years old. She graduated from The O’Neal School and went on to get a bachelor’s degree in business administration from UNC Chapel Hill.
She has worked for Kraft Foods for the past 17 and a half years and is currently regional vice president of retail sales, working out of Charlotte. During the years with Kraft, she passed through 15 different jobs in 11 different locations, and along the way attended Emory University nights and weekends to earn her master’s degree in business administration in 1999.
Slade has always had a passion for horses and riding and has spent many years competing successfully in the show ring. She has hunted hare, fox and stag all over the world, including Australia, New Zealand, France, Ireland and England.
Several years ago she was asked to become a Master of Foxhounds for Moore County, following in the footsteps of her Aunt Ginnie, Dickie Webb, and the Boyds. She is also a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of North America.
“We are fortunate to have a rich history with our beloved Moore County Hounds, being one of the oldest hunts still in operation as well as one of only a handful that remain privately run,” Slade says.
“Dorothy Gibson, program chairman, promises this will be an interesting and timely program because of the Weymouth history and the blessing of the hounds on Thanksgiving morning,” says a spokesman. “She also invites guests to attend.”
There is a friendship coffee starting at 9:30 a.m. before the meeting.
