St. Joseph Associate Receives Award

St. Joseph of the Pines Health System recently recognized Betty Lomax, Administrative Assistant, for her dedication, outstanding quality of work and commitment to quality.

Lomax received the organization’s Values in Practice (VIP) award, which acknowledges associates whose professionalism, initiative, dedication, and empathy reflect St. Joseph’s mission and core values. The award was presented at the Oct. 21 meeting of the Board of Trustees.

Lomax, who has been with St. Joseph of the Pines since November 2001, has held positions in the Human Resources department, the Health Center, and Belle Meade.

“During her three years of employment with St. Joseph of the Pines, Betty has come to be known as an associate who goes out of her way to interact with residents and their families,” said Russell Pait, director of human resources. “Her pleasant, caring demeanor makes everyone she interacts with feel comfortable and appreciated. Her tireless involvement with Relay for Life, the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk, and other fundraising efforts has been a real asset to our organization.”

An associate who nominated Lomax recalled seeing her on one occasion at the Health Center walking with a resident of the Memory Support Unit who seemed quite agitated.

As they walked together, side by side, Lomax began to softly sing, “The Old Rugged Cross.” The resident calmed visibly, his distress subsided, and Lomax accompanied the resident back to his room.

“Betty has a wonderful way about her,” said John Capasso, president and CEO of St. Joseph of the Pines. “She is reassuring and compassionate to residents, associates, and visitors. St. Joseph is both proud and grateful she is with our organization.”

Capasso presented Lomax with a certificate and a $100 Chamber Check, which can be used at various restaurants and shops throughout the Sandhills region.

St. Joseph’s VIP program recognizes the efforts of associates while also improving communication between associates and residents. By providing a framework for aligning associates’ core values with those of the organization, St. Joseph’s VIP program also optimizes commitment to residents and the organization itself.

St. Joseph presents VIP awards to associates six times each year at St. Joseph Board meetings.

St. Joseph of the Pines Health System is a member of Catholic Health East and includes Belle Meade and The Villas independent living; the Coventry assisted living; the Health Center, which provides short- and long-term skilled nursing, rehabilitation services, and memory support; and Providence Place, affordable housing for seniors.
