Unofficial election results that the Moore County Board of Elections provided to The Pilot and other news media on Tuesday night listed zeroes under the “write-in” columns for candidates Joe Stout and Katherine Rice. This was the source of our reporting in today’s paper.

Glenda Clendenin, the elections director, explained this morning that those zeroes were meant to indicate that the write-in votes had not yet been recorded. She said that there were more than 200 write-in votes in Whispering Pines, and her office was still recording them this morning. They were not enough to change the election results.
