Earlier in September, the fifth-grade students traveled to Robbins to view history. As part of their U.S. history program, they saw John Edwards announce his candidacy for president. They were impressed by the crowd, the TV crews and all the happenings.
Also in September, the fifth-grade students made the short trip to Pinehurst for a student matinee of “Fiddler on the Roof” by Sandhills Theatre Company. This experience included a live orchestra, the surprise of “theater in the round” and talking to the actors afterwards. They thoroughly enjoyed the music and the play. Discussions and presentations within the class and for other classes followed later that week. Shawn Leach, Claire Shadomy and Carolanne Fleming made presentations.
The lower grades had a field trip to the Pressley Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze. “They came back with great stories about their adventure and pumpkins,” says a spokesman.
