Vass Lions Club Installs Third-Generation President

Terry A. Keith was recently installed as the new president of the Vass Lions Club. Keith is the third member of his family to serve in this position.

His grandfather, Aubrey Leon Keith, Sr., was a founding member of the club and served several terms as its president. Aubrey Leon Keith, Jr. also has served as president and in numerous other leadership positions with the club. The elder Keith passed away in 1993, but his son and grandson are proud of his leadership in founding of the Vass Lions Club and its services to the community.

On Nov. 7, the club and the North Carolina Lions Foundation sponsored a free eye clinic at the Vass Rescue Squad. In conjunction with the eye clinic, the club sponsored free flu shots for area residents. Over 200 senior and other county residents participated in this activity.

The club has started its drive to collect food to fill over 200 food boxes that will be distributed to needy families during the Christmas holidays.

A spokesman indicated that the club also sells fruit cakes and brooms to raise money that is used to provide needed services to the community. The Vass Lions Club Golf Tournament, held at Woodlake this summer, raised over $3,000 to help fund the club’s activities.
