Sandills Optimist Club Reports Rookie, Major League Results

The following are the results of last week's play in the Sandhills Optimist Club rookie and major leagues.

Rookie League

Royals 8, Marlins 7: For the Royals, several defensive plays, and timely hitting helped the squad pull out the close win. Defensively, Nicholas Cabos stretched out to tag a runner out at first base while lying on his belly. Alex McNeill turned a double play by catching a fly ball and running down a runner. Kymet Smith and Ethan Stephnoski were a good combo at pitcher and first base, throwing out two runners. Dakota Hill threw out two runners at first from the pitcher position. Courtney McNeill stopped a ball hit in deep right field. At the plate for the Royals, Matthew Peele hit a two-run homer. Hunter Martin had a triple in the third inning that brought in a run. Kole Herman hit a double in the last inning, and Nicklaus Finnegan brought in the two game-winning runs.

Diamondbacks 18, Royals 12: The Royals started out strong with hits by Kymet Smith, Matthew Peele and Dakota Hill. Hunter Martin, Nicholas Cabos and Courtney McNeill all scored on a triple by Alex McNeill. Kole Herman had two big hits to bring in runs. The Royals' defense had a strong third inning with three quick outs by Nicklaus Finnegan and Alex McNeill. The game was called early because of a storm.

Reds 19, Cardinals 1: Alex Holler had two hits for the Cardinals, and Anna Bridgman scored the only run for the Cards. Anderson Allgeyer made an outstanding catch in the third inning, and Andrew Harmody tagged three Reds out at third base.

Cardinals 11, Orioles 7: Anna Bridgmand lead the way for the Cardinals with three hits and two runs. Brianna Embler, Anderson Allgeyer and Grant Willimas all scored two runs for the Cardinals. Sam Willimas hit a home run in the second inning. Grant Willimas went three for three, and Allgeyer had a triple for the Cards in their rain-shortened victory.

Reds 19, Cardinals 1: The Reds had their best performance of the season against the Cardinals. Home runs by Zachary Martinez and Carson Maples along with the hot bats of Christopher Kelly, Christian Hyatt, Noah Crawford, Patrick Cole, Trent McKay, Jacob Johnson, C.J. Lamb, Cole Kirkpatrick and Kyle Osterman fueled the offense. Fine glove work was provided for the Reds by Cole Kirkpatrick, Jacob Johnson and Daniel Wise.

Major League

Orioles 13, Reds 1: Zach Hrabosky led a strong hitting attack for the O's with three hits, and four runs scored. Matt Eddy also went three for three, collecting five RBIs along the way. Brian Linn and M.J. Wilson each had one hit with two RBIs, and Wilson scored three runs. Weston Phillips, Tyler Barber and Matthew Lacher collected one hit each, also scoring one run each in the process. Stephen Coppola scored twice. For the Reds, Daniel Harman hit a solo home run, the first of his baseball career. Anthony White and Mac Boorman each had hits for the Reds, with Boorman crushing a double.

Cardinals 7, Reds 3: Aaron Reimer pitched four strong innings to get the win. He struck out six, and only walked one batter. Olivia Ciccolanti and Clem McKenzie each threw a runner out at second base. For the Cards, Hunter Morrell, Matthew Maness, Jacob Griffin and Reimer each had multiple hits.
