Elks Club Plans Benefit Golf Tourney for June 3

The Southern Pines Elks Lodge is holding its 10th annual golf tournament to benefit the handicapped citizens of Moore County.

The tournament, sponsored by the Lodge's handicapped citizens committee will be held June 3 at the Southern Pines Country Club. The captain's choice format will have two flights, and have a 10 a.m. shotgun start. The cost to enter is $50 per player. A lunch is included in the entry fee.

There will several prizes for a hole-in-one, including a Buick Lucerne. There is also a five-day golf vacation to Acapulco, a Nike driver and two-year GMAC program, and two round trip tickets on Delta Airlines to any continental USA destination.

All the prizes are donated by Toby Wells.

There will also be prizes for closest to the pin, and closet to the line. Prizes for first, second and third places will be awarded in each flight.

The committee uses the money raised by the tournament to have a fun day at the club where over 400 children are provided activities, a T-shirt and lunch. The committee also sponsors three dances a year for adults with the assistance of Moore County ARC.

The committee has also offered $300 grants to local teachers for use in self-contained classrooms. The committee has given out 10 grants so far, totaling $3,000.
