The George Washington Carver Community Enrichment Center will present "The Twin Towers of Tuskegee" at the Sunset Theatre, May 26 and 27, at 7 p.m. each evening.
The price of admission is $10 for adults and $3 for young people 18 and under.
The theater will open at 6:30. The Sunset Theatre is located at 234 Sunset Avenue in downtown Asheboro.
"The Twin Towers of Tuskegee" is an original play by Betty Foust. It details the story of the beginning of Dr. George Washington Carver's career at Tuskegee Normal School. Another very familiar historical figure in the play is Booker T. Washington, president of Tuskegee.
The play begins with Carver leaving Iowa State University where he was the first African-American faculty member. The plot continues through Carver's first years at Tuskegee, years frought with internal strife as he wins over the faculty and student body with his unusual talents.
"The community, with particular emphasis on young people, is invited to come and learn about Dr. Carver's many accomplishments," said a spokesman.
George Carver will be portrayed by Baron Gladden; Booker T. Washington will be portrayed by Clyde Foust.
Other cast members include Joe Deberry, Frank Jones, Cameron Campbell, J. Jones, Alanda Harris, Cathy Cheek, Philip Shore and Deborah Matthews.
The production will be directed by Katrina Breitenbach.
