Local Student Places 22nd in MathCounts

Pom McCabe, an eighth-grader at Southern Middle School, placed 22nd in the National MathCounts Competition held last weekend in Alexandria, Va.
McCabe flew to Washington, D.C., with his family, and his math teacher and coach, Linda Harvel, to test his math skills against more than 200 students from across the country.
He also competed on the North Carolina team, a group of the top four MathCounts students from each state. North Caro-lina's team placed ninth.
Along with fellow students from Southern Middle's Technology Student's Associat-ion, he will travel to Dallas this summer to compete in the national competition.
