Camp Open to Certain High School Students

Are you a rising sophomore or rising junior in high school and your parents or guardians receive service from Central Electric? If you can answer yes to the questions, then you are eligible to compete for the Cooperative Leadership Camp sponsored by Central Electric and Cooperative Council of North Carolina.

Cooperative Leadership Camp is a five-day, all expense-paid camping program for high school sophomores or juniors ages 15-18. The camp is held at N. C. FFA Center at White Lake June 19-June 23. The 5-day resident camping program features speakers, workshops, recreation and small group sessions with special emphasis on how a cooperative operates and how to develop leadership skills.

Participants also learn and demonstrate leadership skills through various small groups and specialty sessions during the week. Speakers include prominent elected leaders and officials and representatives of marketing, purchasing and service cooperatives. Time is allotted for traditional camp activities and recreation and the enjoyment of interpersonal relationships.

As a special recognition of campers with unique leadership ability, four campers will be selected to receive expense-paid trips to the National Institute on Cooperative Education, July 30-Aug. 2, in Pennsylvania. All campers will be eligible to apply for the special $1,000 Cooperative Leadership College Scholarship during their senior year of high school.

For an application form, contact Nancy Gust at 1-800-446-7752, extension 141.

Deadline for students to apply is May 15. Campers will be announced by May 25.
