Junior Golfers Compete In EJGA Championships

Jack Fields and Robert Hoadley, both of Southern Pines were the top finishers among local golfers in the Eastern Junior Golf Association (EJGA) Tour Championship held at Fox fire Resort and Country Club last weekend.

Fields finished one stroke behind John Isenhour of Hickory in the 14-15 year-old division with a 27-hole score of 106. He opened with a 70 on Saturday and was at even-par on Sunday before the event was shortened by adverse weather conditions.

Other local juniors in the 14-15 group included Patrick Barrett of Pinehurst, tied for eighth (77-38-115), Kevin MacDonald of Pinebluff, also tied for eighth (76-39-115) and Russell Burke of Pinehurst, tied for 15th (80-38-118). Michael McGowan of Southern Pines, who was second on the points list for the season, came in tied for 18th (78-41-118).

Hoadley was third in the 12-13 division behind first place Aidan Javed of Laurinburg with rounds of 74-75-149. Bert Subin of Pinehurst was 14th (76-85-161) and Sam Packard, also of Pinehurst, was tied for 16th (85-78-163). Hoadley finished in first place in the points standings for the season.

Other age group winners: Boys 8-9 — Joshua Martin, Wilson 70-75-145; Boys 10-11— (tie) Grayson Murray, Raleigh 77-75-152, Reeves Zaytoun, Raleigh 74-78-152; Boys 16-18 — Tanner Briele, New Bern 70-38-108; Girls 12-14 — Courtney Taylor, Lincolnton 74; Girls 15-18 — Emily Street, Forest City 76.
