Pure Prairie League Returns to Sunrise Theater

Pure Prairie League brought innovation and distinction to a generation of music fans with their harmonious southern rock. Hit songwriter Craig Fuller is a founding member of the classic band and has several children at The OÕNeal School (along with his wife, Dr. Victoria DeVito). The bandÕs current tour will make 23 stops across the country including their benefit performance at the Sunrise Theater on Saturday, May 14.

Fuller and his wife have lived in the Pinehurst area for four years. DeVito is a neonatologist and Fuller is a master musician and songwriter. The moved to Pinehurst because of the pace of living as well as the climate.

A walk around the OÕNeal campus will almost surely end up in a visit with one of their children. Allison Weis, recently named homecoming queen, is a senior at OÕNeal this year. Allison is extremely active in sports and clubs and was a Morehead Scholar semi-finalist. Patrick Fuller, guitarist extraordinaire, is in the upper school in ninth grade, while Abby is in fifth grade in the middle school and is quite a musician in her own right.

FullerÕs longtime friends and PPL band members include Rick Schell, Mike Reilly, and Curtis Wright. The band has made beautiful music together for over 30 years and are reuniting to perform in selected locales. Southern Pines is one of 23 stops on this reunion tour.

One of Craig FullerÕs biggest songs is still a radio favorite todayÉ ÒAmie, what you wanna do? I think I could stay with youÉ for awhile, maybe longerÉÓ The song was released by RCA in the early 1970s while the band was still in the studio working on ÒBustinÕ Out,Ó the album featuring FullerÕs massive hit. Before they could get out of the studio and on the road, ÒAmieÓ dominated the nationÕs airwaves.

Through the years Pure Prairie League has maintained their signature sound with very few personnel changes.

This yearÕs event will feature the opportunity to meet the band for a special ÒbackstageÓ champagne and shrimp reception for all $100 donors. Doors open for the concert at 8:15 p.m. Proceeds benefit the endowment at The OÕNeal School which supports faculty and curriculum development.

Tickets are $50 for students; $75 for adults (concert only) and $100 (backstage).

For tickets, call 692-6920, extension 129.
